The story unfolds in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes were diverted to land when the U.S. airspace was closed suddenly doubling the local population with nearly 7,000 stranded passengers. This musical captures the confusion and uncertainty of those passengers as they learn about the attacks and are unsure of when they will be able to return home. It also introduces the people of Gander and nearby communities who come together to welcome these “plane people” with open arms while also grappling with the logistics of accommodating thousands of passengers.
